Beauty Sleep

A good night's sleep is an essential, but often unerappreciated, element in the anti-aging arsenal. Sleep deprivation increases age-related disorders such as weight gain, elevated cholesterol, diabetes, and heart disease. Insufficient sleep also adversely affects your mood and productivity.

"Sleep" could be called the lazy person's exercise becaused the cells of the body are renewed and repaired as we sleep. Healthy cells make us feel, look, and act more "beautiful". We all know "beauty" is more than skin deep.

Snoring and Sleep Apnes (a breathing disorder characterized by interruptions of breathing during sleep) can be corrected. If you have concerns, call for a consultation.

TIPS FOR GETTING A GOOD NIGHT'S SLEEP;

1) Caffeine and Nicotine - these are stimulants so it is best not to consume any caffeine after 6pm and not to smoke later in the evening (or not at all for beautiful skin).
2) Alcholol - although alcohol can help people fall asleep; it also often wakes people up in the middle of the night.
3) Exercise - vigorous exercise late at night is not good because exercise gives you energy; a leisurely walk is fine.
4) Food - it is best to eat 3 to 4 hours before retiring but don't go to bed hungry either. If you must eat, eat something light and maybe drink some warm milk.
5) Bed and Pillow - ideally, you should spend 8 hours a day in bed so invest in a good quality bed (not too soft, too hard, too old or too lumpy), natural fabric sheets and bed coverings, and a pillow that properly supports your neck and head.
6) Routine - establish a bedtime routine to mentally prepare your body for a good night's sleep. This should include a nightly regimen of oral (teeth, tongue and gums) and skin care. The facial skin should be cleansed and exfoliated then rejuvenating products with calming properties and plenty of antioxidants should be applied and allowed to work all night long.
7) Clear YOUR Head - relaxing music or meditation will help. Sometimes writing down things to take care of the next day allows you to relax more.
8) Noise and Light - if these are keeping you from getting a good night's sleep, try ear plugs and a fabric eye mask.
9) Temperature - it is always easier to sleep when the room is cool.
0) Hot Bath - often helps people RELAX.
